Dear Stakeholder
We are writing to inform you of a restriction in place for all navigable waters of NSW concerning the safety of persons involved in watersport activities.
From 24 April 2025, a temporary maximum speed limit of 60 knots (110 km/h) was put in place for all powered vessels towing any person, regardless of age, on all NSW navigable waters. This restriction has now been extended beyond 30 June 2025 to 30 April to 2026, unless revoked or modified earlier.
While towing any person, vessel operators and persons using NSW waters must adhere to the maximum speed restriction of 60 knots (110 kilometres per hour), as well as any further local waterway restrictions. They must also keep a proper lookout and maintain a safe speed and distance from persons, vessels, land, or structures.
Where localised restrictions on certain waterways apply below this limit, such local limits continue to apply.
For full details, please visit the Statewide 60-Knot Speed Limit on Towing in NSW website. We encourage all waterway users to check back on this page regularly over the coming months for updates, outcomes of the review, and for any changes to waterways. Also, always check the Marine Notices.
Your safety is our priority, and we appreciate your cooperation as we work to make NSW waterways safer for everyone.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact Transport for NSW on 13 12 36.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
